Whanaungatanga – a special outing

The teachers have identified Whanaungatanga as a key principle within the teaching and learning environment of AB’s. Whanaungatanga is about building relationships through shared experiences and working together, providing people with a sense of belonging.

Each day we discuss whanaungatanga with the children – what it looks like, what it means, why it is important. We talk about caring for each other, caring for ABs, working together and helping one another. When the teachers see this in action, we bring out a special box of beads and a jar and each child involved gets to choose one bead to go in the jar. When the jar is full we will plan a special outing.
