Roll up, Roll up The Recycling Circus was at Aspiring Beginnings…

Today “The Recycling Circus” performed for us.  Before the cirucs began, we went into the kowhai room where we had a chance to talk about “What recycling was to them?” and “What things were made of?” and “Where they came from?”.  The children’s understanding of “circus” was greater than the abstract idea of “recycling”.  Potoroto and Sardina were now ready to perform and educate.  The children sat eager for the performance to begin.  The characters were kind and interesting, their baggy striped clothes were unusual and they wore strange hats which we imagined concealed great circus treats.The floor was covered in everyday recycling interspersed with interesting circus artifacts.  The children identified and sorted the different objects which our performers tidied up before the acrobatics began.  A great chance for our audience to participate in recycling. The slapstick style was appreciated by the children and the awe inspiring skill and acrobatics wowed and silenced them.  Potoroto and Sardina danced and moved to music that filled our imaginations with the lights and glamour of The Big Top, as we eagerly awaited for the trapeaze finale.  They contorted and balanced, juggled and flipped but what came next from the “glass” box was a spectacle to be believed, even by the teachers. A glass ball, with Potoroto’s great skill, looked as though it were floating magically, an ethereal bubble which if let go would fly away!

A greater finale than we ever expected even better than the trapeaze, thank you Potoroto and Sardina “The Recycling Circus“. The children couldn’t get enough of our performers, mobbed with appreciation. The children told each other and the teachers about their favourite parts “juggling”, “the music” and “the jokes”.  But sadly the show had to move on and perform again for another school;

“I hope they had enough energy after that performance!”
