Olympic Games at Aspiring Beginnings

Olympic Games at Aspiring Beginnings

The excitement is building as we get ready for our Olympics day tomorrow. Medal making was the beginning as we chopped, stuck, threaded and painted gold, silver & bronze medals.

Whariki time has generated lots of discussion about the different events that happen during the Olympics and the different countries that compete. Also finding out that there are many countries represented here at AB’s.

Our opening ceremony has generated the most excitement so far. You can’t have an opening ceremony without flags, so more creativity and fine motor practice as we make flags that show who we are from all over the world.

The children asked “What do athletes and Olympians eat during training; before and after a race?”

A great brainstorming session and some of the ideas were bananas, pasta, fruit and lettuce. Raewyn, the chef, has prepared a carbo loaded lunch of macaroni cheese and fruit salad to prepare our competitors.  This afternoon we are baking some tasty grain bars to replenish the energy we will burn.

The schedule of events was devised by the tamariki. There are some traditional events such as the relay, discus, bike race, and a few quirky special events like digging the fastest, quickest treasure find, hula hoop racing, and even a dizzy race.

The podiums will be erected and the national Anthem has been practiced.
Can’t wait for the day, see you tomorrow at 10.30

AB’s Olympics – Thursday 9th August

It started with an inversion layer but even that couldn’t put a damper on the day.  Tamariki ma, we as teachers feel so very proud of all the team spirit, participation, cheer, and an overall extraordinary effort by all of our tamariki; ka pai.
The opening ceremony went without a hitch as we all did a lap of the hockey turf waving flags and singing the National Anthem.
Then let the games begin.
Running races, (very fast)
Horsey races, (what a hoot)
Relay (fabulous team work)
Already time for the first medal ceremony and a refueling lunch cooked by Raewyn.
Afternoon session
Shot Put (determination)
Javelin (Surprise winners)
Gymnastics (which saw so much creativity)
Then it was all over . . . The day had just disappeared and without further ado more medal ceremonies and a dizzy race to finish.
“Tamariki ma what a wonderful day had by all.”
