Dr Maclean health visit

Dr Maclean health visit

‘Bodies’ have been an interest among the children and with winter approaching (along with sneezes, coughs and colds) we thought a visit from a doctor was just what was needed….. A nd we knew just the doctor to ask – Dr Maclean, Teddy’s mum.  We could all see that Dr Maclean had brought with her a big bag…… Ooohhhh what was inside..?

Dr Maclean asked “What would you see a doctor for?”

Looking inside her big doctors bag, Dr Maclean pulled out a number of new and interesting instruments: a stethoscope, a peak flow metre, thermometer and a tendon/reflex hammer to name just a few.  As each new instrument was produced, Dr Maclean asked if we had seen it before and if we knew what it was used for.  She also needed a volunteer each time to demonstrate how they were used – we were not short of volunteers – everyone had the opportunity to try something.

The favourite was definitely the stethoscope, we all knew what this was.  It is used to “listen to your heart”.   Dr Maclean showed us how to listen to someone’s heart beat using the stethoscope and told us that we would be able to check each others ‘breathing and rumbling tummies’….. an opportunity taken up by almost everyone!

Afterwards we had some discussions around keeping ourselves safe and healthy, healthy eating, blowing our noses, washing hands, and wearing appropriate clothing for the weather. Thank you Dr Maclean.
