Singing, drama and role-play have all been strong interests of the Kaho children lately. The teachers have noticed children wanting to listen and dance to a variety of songs, enjoying ‘acting out’ songs such as Five Little Monkeys (jumping on the bed) and Five Little Speckled Frogs as well as lots of super hero games and roles from movies that the children have watched. To support the children’s interest we arranged for a small group of children to travel up to Wanaka Primary School to watch a play ‘Rap-unzel’ by a visiting theatre group, New Zealand Playhouse.
The show told the story of Rapunzel, who with the voice of Lady Gaga, the dance moves of Beyonce, and the hair of ……. Rapunzel, is tipped to be the hot favourite to win ‘A Land Far Far Away’s Got Talent With X Factor Idol’. But Rapunzel finds herself in trouble as she refuses to sign her contract with ruthless ‘moosic producer’ Simon ‘Cow’.
Safely set, ready and waiting, everyone was so excited about travelling together in the taxi and as we drove through town there was lots of talk about places the children had been (ie, the garage and the carwash), recalling that we were travelling down the same road we had walked just a week earlier on excursion to the library, which roads needed to be taken to get to a certain house, shop or business and so on. The children showed they know a lot about the town they live in.
In the hall the primary school had made space for us to sit right up the front – we have the perfect space from which to watch this most entertaining show. What a great outing…
